Howard B. Melnick, MD
Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist with 28+ Years Experience
61-years old, born and raised outside of Philadelphia, obtained a BS in psychology at St. Joe’s University in 1976 where I met my future wife, Jacqueline Ann Scaringi. We married in 1977 on New Year’s Eve, and it has been a celebration ever since. My grandfather was a pediatrician, my father practiced ob/gyn, and I was proud to graduate from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel in 1982 as a third generation Melnick M.D. I pursued specialization in ear, nose and throat disease, also known as otorhinolaryngology which required two years of general surgery training and three years of ENT training. This was all done at Thomas Jefferson University with some exciting outside rotations involving pediatric surgery at CHOP and burn center rotation at Crozer-Chester Med Center. I completed my residency training in 1987 and moved to Lebanon and have been in private practice here for over 28 years.
My wife, Jacqueline, is certified in elementary education and has a masters in reading specialty. Our oldest son, Daniel, soon to turn 32, is a writer with a masters in folklore and ethnology obtained in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is married to Rachel Taylor Melnick who is also an elementary education teacher and just had twin babies this August, Parker Reilly and Ivy Taylor. Ben, our next son, is a lawyer for the Department of Environmental Protection in Tallahassee, also married to a Rachel, has a beautiful daughter Bria soon to be two, expecting a sister in October. Bria’s mom is a professional photographer. My youngest son, Steve, just graduated PCOM with his D.O., and hence he is now fourth generation Dr. Melnick. He is doing a residency in internal medicine at Reading Hospital and is contemplating cardiology.
I have been a collector of many things all my life from stamps to micro-photos called Stanhopes, special pocket knives, watches, and have enjoyed a long line of German shorthaired pointers as family pets. I generally do not hunt, but I do enjoy target shooting, splitting wood, gardening, and exercise. My wife and I especially enjoy foreign travel, particularly the UK and Europe. We love meeting people abroad; in fact, we have made friends that we keep in contact with, enjoy riding the trains, walking cobblestone streets, and seeing the architecture of the Old World.
